Divorce during the year - can I claim tax credit for spouse?

I get divorce in the beggining of October 2007. In my tax return for 2007, can I claim non-refundable tax credit for spouse? Also which tax form should I fill to show the change in my marital status? Thanks

You tax return is filed according to your status at the last day of the tax year. You got divorced in October, so you would be filing as divorced for Dec 31. There may be a portion of the year that you can claim her as a dependent, but you need to check with a qualified tax preparer for the correct information. The change in marital status is noted on the first page of your tax return where you check the boxes regarding your status, simple as that.

If your marital status has changed, you are supposed to complete and send in this form (separately from your tax return) although very few people do:

You may be eligible for GST rebates now.

But no, you cannot claim rebates for your spouse. You will indicate that you are single on your tax return.
