Am on abit of a rant here and I am looking for a serious answer to my qusetion.
I am looking to move in with my girlfiend who has two kids which aren%26#039;t mine. Shes gone back to college and is working part time so she gets tax credit. If I move in they will reduce the amout she gets can anyone tell me why or how I might find out? They are taking my wage into account yet I am not paying for the kids there dad is doing that. Also she has the mortgage not me so is she not still a single mum of two, who works part time while at college? Why does my wage count?
Cheers

the newer laws in benefits mean your living as a married couple.

Cos they will see it as cohabiting and they%26#039;ll expect you to be contributing to the family and running of the house.Be careful cos if the neighbours know u are living there they could call the dss and inform them .Then you partner could find herself in stumm cos when she filled in the forms she%26#039;d would have been asked if anyone else is living with her.
THe best thing would be is to %26quot;visit %26quot; her but don%26#039;t leave any of your stuff there.
Crazy but that%26#039;s the system ..Hope it all works out

I don%26#039;t know what state, province or country you are in, and you didn%26#039;t specify.
However, if you are moving in with your girlfriend, you and she will not be filing joint tax returns. As a result, she will not be claiming your income on her tax return. The tax return is the basis for any federal tax credits. Without knowing your state, I can%26#039;t speculate any further on what your state might do.
If you are instead referring to public assistance, then if you are living with her, the state has a right to determine that you are sharing expenses. This reduces her need for public assistance, and thus they can consider your income. However, whether this is a tax credit would depend on the specifics of your case.
You need to consult an attorney licensed in your state for more specific information, or give enough information above to be able to identify the situation further. If you need an attorney and don%26#039;t know one, contact your local or state bar association for a referral.

There is a calculator on there that will allow you to work it out going off the monies you both get.
Don%26#039;t forget to take into account the changes to other benefits he may be getting Single person for council tax etc etc.
Hope it goes well and Good Luck

Hi . Being a single mum of two . All I can suggest is that you ring the tax credits help line. I think because you have moved in they take your wages in to account to help pay bills. The dads money does not come into it , the tax credit people only take in to account wages, how many hours you work and how many kids. Hope this helps!!!
Working family tax credit?
that should not be as you will each still file separate taxes. I am not sure if you are talking about earned income credit because if so as long as she is paying more than 50% of her childrens up keep then she still gets earned income credit

If you move in with the girlfriend then the family unit changes and there are now 2 adults and 2 children. When deciding on tax credits they take into account the income of the whole family. If you are on a low income then you may still be entitled to tax credits.
