Will she lose her family tax credit?Basically what has happened is she was an assistant manager in a shop and they expected her to work 2late nights a week which was till 10.30pm.That was fine till she had her baby and now it is really upsetting her baby to be away from her 2nights a week. Her partner is a chef so works long shifts so he isnt home to put the baby to bed either. They have struggled on up till now but now the baby is 15months she is far more aware of things and so my daughter wants to try and find a job where she can be home every night with her baby to put her to bed herself.Up to now she has slept at our house as we live 20miles away from where our daughter lives and neither of us can drive so we have no option but to do it this way.She has to work they have a house to pay for,is there anything she can claim beings as she had no choice but to give up this job for her babys sake untill she has found another job?The stress has made her ill and any advice will be helpfull.
Does anyone know anything about family tax credit? My daughter has had to give up her job because of the hours.
The tax credits are split into 2 sections... working tax credit and child tax credit... she willl continue to receive the child tax credit but will lose her working tax credit due to her not working. She needs to notify the DWP and they will sort it out. To qualify for the working tax credit she must work more than 16hours/week... The Tax Credits Office will sort it out and probably even be able to tell her what else (if anything) she can claim. Alot will depend on her husbands income as to wether she can claim income support etc... :) Alternatively look here www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits

Yes. A change in circumstance of this magnitude must be reported to the tax credit department. She got it based on her hours and her wages. If she is unemployed she should claim jobseekers and tell the tax office.

There is some ridiculous rule that if you work more than 16 hours a week you lose your right to claim a benefit. I can%26#039;t remember which one though.

She%26#039;ll definitely lose family tax credit with not having a job, but will probably qualify for income support until such time as she finds another job with more sociable hours. Is the family tax credit based solely on her salary or both?
You might find this website of some use -

Tax credits goes on the hours worked mainly. If your daughters partner is working 30 hours or under then they should qualify for working tax credits, this should be quite a higher rate. If he works over 30 hours then the tax credits will be lower. You can find out as long as you know your wages for the past 2/3 years , the hours you work and hourly rate of pay. My partner works under 30 hours a week and we have 3 children. Our rent and council tax is now very low, we pay hardly anything, but if he works more hours then the amount we get would go down. Ring Tax Credits hotline and inquire. Hope i have been of some help.

Is she claiming as a couple? she will not lose her tax credits in fact it should increase if there is only one adult working now - tell her to call them tomorrow to inform them she has given up her work and then they will recalculate her credits on just her partners wage and hours.
I claim, my partner works and stay home to look after the children.
Good Luck

If your daughter phones the family tax office they will sort it out, they did ours quickly.
We get more now via working tax and family tax than we did when my husband was out of work for a while.
So if she doesn%26#039;t declare her partner it might be better if she did, unless he has other committments.

The link below will enable you to establish is she would qualify for either working tax credit or family tax credit.
It is pretty straightforward to work through - even if you don%26#039;t have exact numbers just punch in something (truthfully) close.
A trip to the local Citizens Advice Bureau would probably be a good idea

Family Tax Credit no longer exists.
What there are now are two separate Tax Credits - Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.
Child Tax Credit can be claimed by anyone earning up to 鎷?0,000 pa. You don%26#039;t have to be working to claim it. Basically the more you earn the less you get so if your daughter has given up her job and her income she will be entitled to MORE Child Tax Credit, not less!
Working Tax Credit is for those working over 16 hours a week and on a lower income (less than 鎷?5,000). I don%26#039;t know how much Chefs earn but if her hubby is on this sort of salary they will get that as well.
But anyway she would definitely get her Child Tax Credit.
I%26#039;m not working right now and my partner is working full time for minimum wage (he%26#039;s a driver) so we don%26#039;t have much of an income. We get both Working Tax and Child Tax Credits and they do make a difference.
